To increase the number of pure German births the Nazis offered a number of financial incentives such as loans and grants to encourage women. Maternity services were improved and propaganda was implemented to increase the status of mothers within society an example of this was the Mother's Cross which was awarded to women who had a certain number of children. Both of these were incentives to women however there were a number of penalties for those who chose not to have large families. These included higher taxes for childless parents and tighter penalties on abortion.
To increase the number of suitable marriages the Nazis offered financial incentives for those who got married. To pursue their aim of creating a race of healthy Germans the Nazis set-up the NS-Volkswohlschaft and the National Socialist Welfare Organisation which encouraged healthy living and helped to spread health offices to the whole of Germany particularly the rural areas.
