Mrs Alving is very lenient in dealing with finances and matters regarding the orphanage but she makes a point of keeping the Pastor quiet when he tries to dictate issues to do with her family. The Pastor tries to suggest that Regina should go and live with her supposed "father" Engstrand back in town and Mrs Alving replies with,

"Sh, don't say any more about it, my dear Mr Manders"

This shows that Mrs Alving stands down when discussing orphanage matters because it is only Alvings money at stake, but she stands by her family strongly.
